Damayanti Debnath
Artist's Biography
Damayanti is a multidisciplinary artist; currently based in Vadodara, India. In terms of medium, her resent body of work, evolved from the continuous engagements with textile, where she looks at stitching as a generational memory and a female perspective. Her areas of interests are outcomes of unconscious choices we made in a modern lifestyle and its impacts on human physiology and psyche, alternative strategies and livelihood to reverse the environmental damages, rethinking our connection with the natural world. She got her initial training in painting from the College of Art and Design, University of Burdwan, in 2016, followed by MFA from the S. N. School of Arts and Communication, Central University of Hyderabad in 2018. In the last seven years, she expanded her practice from studio based painting to art installations and land art, collaborated with performance artists, experimented with different visual mediums, as video, photographs, sound, texts, and textile mediums. In the recent time, she has exhibited her works in various galleries across Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Ahmadabad and Vadodara.
