Dhruvi Jain
Artist's Biography
Dhruvi Jain (b.1999) completed her MVA and BVA in Sculpture from Maharaja Sayaji Rao University, Baroda. Through her practice she is looking into the human psyche, the reflection of the remnant of the supressed emotions that lay deep inside. She questions, the behaviour and emotions, the absurdities that lay within and how much of it is unrealised, how deceiving the mind can often be and who we truly are. She primarily uses drawing to express herself and also works in ceramic as a medium for her sculptural works as it gives her the kind of freedom that drawing has, she calls it drawing with clay or working in collaboration with clay. She uses hand building techniques, not sticking to a rigid form to be conceived and so never uses a maquette of the works that she makes. She lets the clay guid her while she guides the clay. Through her practise she addresses the absurd and brings forth discomfort that arises through the ambiguity that we have within.
