Naveen Tungana
Artist's Biography
Naveen Tungana hails from Tekkali village in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh. He completed his matriculation from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Srikakulam, followed by a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts (Printmaking) from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam (2017–2021). He later pursued a Master's in Fine Arts (Printmaking) from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan (2021–2023). Naveen’s artwork revolves around the life of farmers, exploring various aspects of their traditions and everyday experiences. His work reflects the old ways of rural life, emphasizing the hardships, conditions, and cultural practices that shape the farming community. Coming from a farming family, Naveen has firsthand experience with agricultural life. He often accompanied his father to the fields, where he developed a deep understanding of the farming process. His close observations have made him aware of the many challenges farmers face, such as unpredictable climate conditions, limited resources, and poor water quality. Despite these hardships, the farmers' unwavering faith in rituals and traditions provides them with a sense of hope and strength. Through his research and artistic practice, Naveen seeks to uncover the deeper meanings behind these rituals and highlight their cultural and emotional significance in his prints.
